OMG Moorea I think you may in fact be describing me 😱🤣. I’m not positive I’ve ever spoken either of those words, but, I’m pretty sure if I just wanted one of them I’d ask for a tamale. You’re telling me that’s wrong?!?!
I don’t think Galloway actually thinks he’s fixed- or at least it never seems like he’s claiming any kind of moral high ground. He talks a lot about how much luck/timing/circumstance got him to where he is, etc. he certainly has no taste for performative humility, but I always get the impression that he sees himself as a sort of work in progress.
I would agree with that last part Kevin (and actually the humility piece…and his lack thereof).
I just think it’s a little sketchy that he’s trying to sell himself as though he’s got all of the answers for young men today, and yet, when he was a young man he was a self-admitted asshole.
But more of the comments skew in favor of your opinion, so maybe I’m just being a sourpuss. I find it all really interesting though. So much so that I think we’re gonna dive into it on the pod this week.
1. Death By Lightning is great. My wife and I enjoyed it too.
2. I believe you mentioned in a recent comment that you had a Scott Galloway diss post coming soon. I actually like him a bit (although I'm liking him a lot less after that shirtless pic), but you make some good points.
I had never heard of Galloway until now. I think the big difference for me is what a huge figure Lance Armstrong was (I mean, he went to the moon after all). Such a compelling story with cancer and all the Tours. Then to fall from grace so far it is hard to think of anything comparable
I think from a sporting perspective maybe Pete Rose is comparable? But like you said, the whole cancer side of the story tips the scales.
I just recommended Galloway’s podcast, Pivot, to Lee in the comments…I think you’d like it as well. Once he gets done being annoying he is entertaining, and sometimes educational.
I dooooooo struggle with social media, I bought a little device to help me exercise self control, but then I miss the dopamine and shop, which isn’t that great of a hobby in this economy 😂. I digress, I really enjoyed the part about deepening connection instead of completely tuning out. Although maybe there is a time period where you do have to tune out to detox, but finding something that you connect with so deeply that you want to take it OFFLINE. Love it.
Definitely!! I read a piece about that this morning. Just allowing your mind the space to be still. Walks are good for that for me…and I am missing that right now. It is currently -2 outside 🤮
I like listening to Scott Galloway. When I read the headline, I was expecting some secret truth about him that would be much worse than a mirror selfie, which is pretty mad, but I guess we can't all be perfect
My point, which clearly got lost because my wife said the same thing (🤣), was why should I take advice from a guy that was a self-proclaimed ahole his entire life…until he got rich. He details it pretty vividly in his book.
I find myself often lamenting the fact that there seem to be so few “good men” that get elevated in our society. Guys that do things the right way, and have always done so.
Regardless, I actually find him interesting to listen to as well. It just bugs me that he basically had to treat people like shit for 40 years to become “enlightened.”
I try not to make fun of others. I hate it when Trump does it so I don’t want to follow his example. That said I’m currently doing an impression of Elizabeth Warren on IG and TikTok. Hehe.
The red string bracelet was worn because Madonna took classes at the Kabbalah center in LA. The Kabbalah is Jewish mysticism. Some aspects remind me of Buddhism. It’s too bad Madonna commercialized a beautiful part of the religion. The red thread was wrapped around Rachel’s tomb with the thought it would ward off the evil eye.
Wonder if Madonna is still into that? I really like Buddhism so maybe I should check it out (instead of mocking….although in my defense I was trying to only mock her. Not sure that makes it any better 😬🤣).
I used to be one of Lance Armstrong's biggest fans. Then the truth finally came out about his cheating, how he tried to (and, in some cases, succeeded) in ruining people's lives.
Did you know that The Onion produced a yellow bracelet very similar to Armstrong's? It says "Cheat To Win." Don't believe me? Google it. You'll see plenty of images.
Anyway, thank you for the reminder about how our impressions of people can change through time.
Yes, and regarding impressions it’s kind of like Galloway went in the opposite direction. Except he wasn’t nearly as public of a figure years ago as he is now.
My favorite d-bag to make fun of is anyone who says the singular form of "tamales" is "tamale."

hee hee, it's such a common mistake that it could now be considered proper English grammar. In Spanish, it's one tamal, two tamales. 😁
As my Popi would say, you learn something new every day!!!
“That getting rich actually fixes you?”

Thanks for the feedback!

It’s really incongruous Lee. I actually listen to his podcast, and enjoy it. After he gets done being a pompous ass, he makes tremendous sense 🤷♂️

Henny, I was blissfully unaware of Scott Galloway until reading this piece. Thanks for the heads-up - now I know what I need to avoid.
He’s actually worth reading and listening to. You just have to suffer through occasional pomposity.

I’ve seen your Warren, pretty damn good!

Probably a dumb question, who was Rachel?
The Kabbalah is what brought me back to Judaism.
Rachel’s story is in Genesis. Her journey teaches us about love, infertility and trusting in G-d’s timing.
Great one Henny.
So many punchable faces!
💪😆
😬🤣 thanks my friend!
Lol you bet!

Truth be told, it KILLS me that I lost my "Cheat To Win" bracelet years ago. I should've bought 10 when they were more readily available.
