I’m Henny Hiemenz, a former college football coach with a healthy suspicion of anyone who has it all figured out.

Especially me.

SilentPunt is where I write funny essays about the bullshit we’re sold, the stories we tell ourselves, and the strange things we do to feel successful, useful, or right.

Work, family, sports, culture - the subjects change. Expect a laugh, something worth thinking about, and the occasional “Wait, is he talking about me?”

I spent twenty-two years coaching college football. At one school, I still have the highest head-coaching winning percentage of the past fifty years. They fired me anyway.

Eventually, I left college coaching to spend more time with my family. Leaving did not cure me of the urge to turn everything into a job. That remains an ongoing investigation.

There’s a podcast, too: conversations with authors, athletes, and other interesting people about what the tidy version of their story leaves out.

You don’t need to care about football. You just need some experience being a person.
