About SilentPunt:

I became a head coach at 29.

Got fired five years later for the most college football reason imaginable, and spent another decade as an offensive coordinator before deciding my family was more interesting than any of it. I’m still the winningest coach at that first school in the past half-century.

So I’ve got that going for me. Which is nice.

Two decades inside one of the most identity-defining institutions in American culture will do something to you. Football doesn’t just build athletes, it builds a very specific idea of what a man is supposed to be. I have some thoughts about what that does to people. I’m still working through some of them myself.

Now I write about the stuff that actually matters: identity, reinvention, and the stories we tell ourselves about who we are and what we’re worth. Usually with some humor, a little perspective, and the occasional WTF. Because if you can’t laugh at the absurdity of being a human being, you’re going to have a very long life.

I also host a podcast every other Thursday. Long conversations with interesting people. The kind you wish you could have at a dinner table, but rarely do.

All of this is free, now, and forever.

My daughter Ava at Disneyland as a toddler. With a churro about the size of her šŸ˜.

I’m also a devoted reader, a committed dog dad, and someone who believes that slowing down enough to actually pay attention is one of the more radical things a person can do.

Hope you enjoy it here.
