Some meds cause weight gain; it's not always about food. Personally, I'm extremely low carb because my body has an addictive response to carbs and dairy. Once I'm in ketosis it's smooth sailing, but getting here is unpleasant and difficult. And you basically have to ignore the advice of your average doctor because their guidelines for losing weight don't work. So anyway, I do have a lot of empathy for obese people.
Oh, and this post was perfectly timed with my most recent note (about the health benefits of taking more steps per day -- the opposite of scooters). 😁
Walking is very highly underrated. I actually have a weighted vest but haven’t ventured out in public with it yet. I look a bit like a militarized walker 🤣
And definitely on the meds. And certain medical conditions. I’ve know some people and you could tell something like that was going on. Almost like a full body bloat.
This one was fun. Well done, Henny. Especially liked the swearing part. I had a basketball coach once who was highly disciplined about not swearing. The guys and I used to joke, why does he always make it harder on himself. 😆
(Sidebar: If you and Travis are ever light on topics I’d love to hear you guys riff on favorite coaches from film/TV. Your “run it again” line reminded me of Herb Brooks in Miracle. “Again”)
Also appreciated the fine line discussion. The dynamic I typically reference, it can be a very fine line between supporting and enabling. Ask myself this as a parent all the time. I tend to think the singular acts aren’t as important as the trend but man, that slope can get slippery fast.
Thanks Matt! I considered Herb Brooks my spirit animal 🤣.
And totally on the parenting bit. That’s something my wife and I have really struggled with when it comes how much to give our daughter. Most of the things we didn’t have or couldn’t do growing up were because they were outside of our parent’s means. To willfully not provide something for your child that they want, and you can afford, but that they don’t need….takes self restraint.
Having watched way too much Seinfeld, I’m guessing “Discounted Ladies’ Eyeglass Frames” - you know, this guy owes Kramer a favor because he got him off sugar. . .
I agree 100%. Makes me think of going to the airport, the big electric carts that drive people from one end of the terminal to the other. Sometimes it's old people, but often the people are just overweight. And it's not even such a long distance either. These people could benefit from getting a few extra steps in.

All bodies are certainly different!!
But I agree about the scooters -- they should only be used by people who can't walk or are healing from a leg injury or something.

I read you, mate. They have become too commonplace. I saw the same abuse with handicapped parking stickers.
Funny thing, it must be a US thing because I rarely see them here in Spain.
Good post.
Thanks for sharing, hardass! Haha!
Not surprised you don’t see it as much there. Americans seem to be efforting to corner the market on lazy.
👍
I think empathy without boundaries is not really empathy at all. I think what often times people refer to as empathy is not actually empathy 😱😱
I’d concur. Something I think a lot of young people are finding out the hard way

OMG that is not it but I love it. I haven’t thought of that episode in forever!
Ah, I see it now, they’re buying a discounted wheelchair.
I agree that at the end of the day it is all about choices. I haven’t been to Disney, but it sounds like Wall-e.
That’s a good analogy Paul. I’d say you’re not missing anything, but I’d be lying. I actually really like it. My checkbook on the other hand…..🤣

Yup. Just in an airport today and saw plenty.
