I read the Onion book this spring and it made me SO hopeful for comedy, satire, printed work, zines, and just really smart, inventive people smoshing their mojos together (in a totally consensus way). I was also delighted to discover The Onion is a true Midwest joint! I always thought it was a San Francisco thing. Eat it, West Coast! 🥸
He was one of the founders and the president at one point. We’ve played golf together occasionally and one day someone told me about it while we were playing together. I was totally geeked out and he was very non plussed. Super nice guy.

I felt the same way! And of course the guy I know, who was super influential at the beginning, was not the one to tell me. Because he’s midwestern.
