I have a love-hate relationship with both my full-length mirror and my bathroom scale. That is, I love to hate them. I’ve been heavy my entire life, save 3 years when I had chronic anxiety due to a yet-undiscovered brain tumor. But even at my lowest adult weight of 137, I hated looking in the mirror…everything was saggy, drooping, and gross. Now, on the other side of brain surgery and almost dying twice post-op, I have returned to my “PA Dutch weight.”
I’ve come to realize that it is every woman’s lot in life to dislike something about her physical body because of Western culture and what we are conditioned to believe is beautiful. When in reality, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and is an inside job. When you have a good heart and a sweet soul, that’s a kind of beauty that transcends the eye. But so few of us ever learn to view people through that lens. And so it goes.

It’s so just not us! I just subscribed to another Substacker, Adam Marc, who has brain cancer. There are likely many of us!
