This Q&A is epic and has catapulted me into a nostalgic frenzy!

I was obsessed with the heart removal in "Temple of Doom". I tried it several times on my dad while he was blissfully sleeping in his recliner, but it didn't work. He would just wake up angry and in pain because I twisted his chest hair during my attempts... That's what parents get for letting their children watch such age inappropriate content 😅

Henny Hiemenz's avatar

Hahaha holy shit that is funny! And twisted 🤣

I think that scene scarred a lot of us kids. Sounds like your dad didn’t escape it either!!!

This Q&A was some awesome Friday fun! The heart removal terrified me to my core. Do we need a Temple of Doom support group? We could serve Hostess fruit pies. We couldn’t get those in Canada and they were the ultimate treat on U.S. road trips (along with Breakfast at Bob Evans).

Henny Hiemenz's avatar

Don’t you have Tim Hortons? Tomato tomahto?

I am down for the support group, I’ll even bring the pies! Lemon was always my favorite.

Also, where do I join the Elizabeth Shue club?

Henny Hiemenz's avatar

Another Shue fan?? Over an in her prime Donna Dixon? Maybe I’m biased because I married a blonde 🤷🏼‍♂️

Rick Lewis's avatar

What a brilliant format this is. I was thoroughly engaged by this one. Are you asking the same questions of each new group or going to post new ones?

Henny Hiemenz's avatar

Was thinking of new questions with new themes. But re-dos isn’t a bad idea either. Thoughts?

Rick Lewis's avatar

Well, it's more work obviously, so easy for me to say, but new questions and the weirder the better.

Henny Hiemenz's avatar

Ok cool. Thats what I was leaning towards.

This was a fun survey to answer, thanks Henny!

I realize now that I've read the other responses that I misinterpreted what you were asking with Q 9. I thought you were asking what my favorite reruns were when I was a kid! But I guess my answer would still be Three's Company because I rewatched the entire series with my teen son, and it's still hilarious.

Henny Hiemenz's avatar

Thanks for participating!

I’ve wondered about Three’s Company and if it held up or not. I tried Cheers a few years ago and while it was still funny, the pacing was soooo slow.

Liz LaPoint's avatar

I haven’t tried watching Cheers again after all these years, but I imagine I’d feel the same way you do about the pacing because I thought it was a bit boring back in the ‘80s, too! But in my defense I was just a kid and I think a lot of the humor went over my head.

Henny Hiemenz's avatar

Some of the Norm-isms still percolate from my brain periodically.

MaryBeth Lathrop's avatar

All things way more recent than my teenage reviews. (Don't tell anyone 😳)!

Henny Hiemenz's avatar

Hahaha. Your generation will definitely have a go at this eventually!

MaryBeth Lathrop's avatar

I'm not YOUNGER than you...all the things you guys mentioned are more recent than my memories (of the 60's and 70's.

Henny Hiemenz's avatar

Oh I understood!

Sheila Moeschen's avatar

Top notch and I hope you keep this feature! I was also playing along and glad that Cheers made the cut. That show remains a 10 for writing and characters. No notes!

Henny Hiemenz's avatar

Have you tried watching it recently? I did a couple of years ago.

Sheila Moeschen's avatar

Not all the way through. I’ve dipped in and out of episodes. The Rebecca seasons are particularly good-I think

Henny Hiemenz's avatar

It was the pacing that threw me. So much slower. Sign of the times I guess.

Which makes me nervous about Wonka. My patience isn’t what it once was. I may need to watch that with some whiskey on hand 😀

Sheila Moeschen's avatar

Ah! Yeah….definitely a different pacing and rhythm. Oh yeah, mix something strong for Wonka-there’s a lot of singing! 🍭

Henny Hiemenz's avatar

It’s a musical!?!?

Sheila Moeschen's avatar

Um….sort of….like a movie musical….don’t be scared, little fella…(opens palm with kibble of beer nuts and some Wisconsin fried cheese product…) here you go….c’mon…..

Paul Horton's avatar

Cheers= favorite show of all time

Henny Hiemenz's avatar

How about you Paul - have you tried recently to try watching it again?

Paul Horton's avatar

At least three times!

Sheila Moeschen's avatar

It really holds up in a lot of ways. The characters are simply so well-written. Great stuff.

Love this Q & A! Took me back to the "eat or be eaten" ethos of the '80s

Henny Hiemenz's avatar

Thanks Lindsey! This was super fun to put together.

Weird Al concert! That’s hilarious. There’s gotta be a story there.

Love the first kiss stories.

Matt’s especially 🤣

So fun!!! Took me back. Man oh man. I long for the days of simplicity and popcorn and soda snacks being .50. Great Q&A!!!

Henny Hiemenz's avatar

Right?!

Thanks Lisa!!!

Love the Q & A. Brings back a lot of memories

Thanks for reading and commenting Titi!

I could read stuff like this all day. I’m stuck in a time warp and I don’t even try to get out.

Henny Hiemenz's avatar

Ha! And thanks, me too. Analog all day.

Somebody’s gotta do it.

So fun!

Thanks Tamara!!

Henny, I skew a bit older than this group of participants, but I will point out that Breakfast Club originated at my high school (New Trier East, in Winnetka, Illinois) - I was a good boy, so I never ended up in Breakfast Club, but I knew some of the regulars.

Henny Hiemenz's avatar

Word on the street is the hs was actually Maine North 🤔

Fun fact though, I’ve been on New Trier HS on numerous occasions!

Bill Southern's avatar

Yeah, John Hughes did go to Maine North, but a buddy of his went to New Trier and provided the name, replacing Hughes’ planned title: “Lunch Bunch.”

William Weaver's avatar

That was a fun read, thanks Henny!

Love this post! Woof, what a throwback. (But it also made me laugh because I couldn't have remembered how to answer those questions LOL!)

Henny Hiemenz's avatar

Ha! I bet you could 😀

Diane Roth's avatar

You overestimate me! I don't even believe myself anymore when I come up with first memories!
