Ah, good old movie reels. That's how they were in the theaters when I first started going to movies.

Horror is popular because people like to be scared in a non-real-threatening way.

I like horror, my wife does not.

I hate law and order svu where the cases are molesters and such. My wife likes the crime stuff.

To me that is too close to reality and I hate abuse.

I cannnot stomach that at all. But monsters and creatures, yes please!

Godzilla and the old Dracula, Wolfman and Creature from the Black Lagoon were all my faves back in the long ago.

Today it's Alien, From, Twisted Metal, American Horror Story, most things that aren't super gory.

I did watch Terrifier and I wish I had skipped that. It was pretty sick.

I can actually do some scary stuff as long as it’s a really good story, just not the horror and gore.

I get you with SUV type shows. Real life monsters exist and I have no interest in watching shows about that stuff either.

Yeah, I love thrillers. Just not horror or gore.

Early M Night Shyamalan!

I am also no fan of horror…but I scare super easily, and I have no tolerance for gratuitous violence and gore. There is so much better cinematic creativity than that.

Totally agree. Don’t understand why that genre is so popular

Nightmare on Elm Street! Terrified a generation of kids

Poltergeist or Exorcist probably freaked me out more I think.

I used to be a fan of horror. I'm not anymore. The world is scary enough, maybe?

That’s for sure. Although I’ve always been scared to death of horror films 🤣

Regarding the article, it's wild how certain sounds or images from film becoem so deeply ingrained. Do you think the emotional weight of media changes with new tech? This was a truly brilliant and introspective piece.

Thanks Roxy! I totally do…but think it’s maybe a personal thing? I don’t like reading books on a screen, but my wife loves reading that way.

I think about all this stuff with my kids. They'll never know a world without unlimited content. The fact that you can just pick and choose freely. No starting halfway through the episode (because it began 10 minutes ago). No disappointment because cartoons are over for the day. It's all streaming, all the time.

For the most part I try not to lament the changes. Life moves on. But there definitely was something special about appointment viewing. The Cosby Show as a kid. Watching Friends in college with a bunch of people.

I’m with you, Henny - not a horror fan. And we go to the movies every Saturday, so we’re likely to see a crappy movie more often than not. And, with no clack-clack-clack to show for it.

I’m going tonight to see a chick flick with my family. Totally expecting it to be crap. But at least there will be popcorn!

1…2…Freddy’s coming for you.

Damn. Those movies tormented my adolescence. That and Children of the Corn.

Ugh. I hate scary movies! And until you articulated it, I never realized I felt the same way— why do I want to watch people be terrified, stalked, or torn to bits? No thanks.

And the heart wrenching stuff we had to see in the name of profits… no wonder we distrust authority. They never had our backs.

Not in the least

That film video was strangely satisfying.

Henny Hiemenz's avatar

Haha. I think the kids call that asmr.

Something like that, ha ha

Oh man what a great attitude Michelle. There is not much better than the love of a dog.

I’m heading to the shelter right now, hopefully to find some of them have been adopted in the past week.

Pats to Milo!
